HSK Level 4 Requirements and Exam Format for Children

This article outlines the expectations and exam format for children taking the HSK Level 4 test. HSK Level 4 is designed for students who have studied Chinese for four semesters, at a pace of 2-3 hours per week, and have mastered 1,200 commonly used words. Students who pass HSK Level 4 should be able to discuss a wide range of topics in Chinese and communicate relatively fluently with native speakers. The HSK Level 4 exam consists of 100 questions divided into three sections: Listening, Reading, and Writing.

1、Listening Section

 

  • Part 1

This section includes 10 questions. In each question, one person speaks a short passage, followed by another person making a statement based on that passage. The statement is also provided in the question, and the test-taker must determine if the statement is true or false based on the initial passage.

  • Part 2

This section consists of 15 questions. Each question includes a two-sentence dialogue between two people, followed by a third person asking a question about the dialogue. The test provides four answer choices, and the test-taker must select the correct answer based on the dialogue.

  • Part 3

This part has 20 questions. Each question presents a short dialogue or passage with 4 to 5 sentences, followed by 1 or 2 questions about it. The test-taker must choose the correct answer from four options based on the content of the dialogue or passage.

2、Reading Section

 

  • Part 1

This section includes 10 questions. Each question provides 1 or 2 sentences with a blank, and the test-taker must choose the correct word from the options to fill in the blank.

  • Part 2

This part consists of 10 questions. Each question provides three sentences that the test-taker must arrange in the correct order.

  • Part 3

This section has 20 questions. Each question includes a short passage with 1 or 2 questions about it. The test-taker must choose the correct answer from four options based on the passage.

3、Writing Section

 

  • Part 1

This part includes 10 questions. For each question, a few words are provided, and the test-taker must form a coherent sentence using those words.

  • Part 2

This section has 5 questions. Each question provides a picture and a word. The test-taker must write a sentence using the given word that corresponds to the picture.
